Workshops

September 8, 2022: Felted Mittens

Skill Level: Beginners and more experienced felters both welcome

Just in time for that special Christmas gift—or to keep your own chilly fingers toasty warm—this class will teach basic felting techniques. We will learn how to make dimensional, seamless felt and get pointers on some really fun surface designs. Each pair of mittens will reflect the colors and textures selected by the makers. No experience is necessary, but knowledge of how to lay out roving for wet felting is beneficial.

Your instructor, Deb Tewell, has been a vendor at The Salida Fiber Festival since just about the very beginning and brings with her years of felting experience and teaching others how to felt. This workshop have been developed to allow for as much individuality possible so each student will be able to focus on techniques and creativity. With step-by-step instructional handouts they will be able to take their learning beyond the classroom to create more felted projects on their own at home.

Class Fee of $95 Includes: Use of all felting equipment; wool roving, recycled silks for the project, and handout with explicit instructors; use of instructor patterns

Students need to Bring: notebook and pen or pencil; 2 old bath towels; sharp scissors; waterproof apron (optional); plastic tub or bucket (at least 1 qt.); comfortable shoes
